History:
The Residential Communications Network (RCN) was founded back in 1993 in Princeton, New Jersey. Back then, RNC was the first American facilities-based provider to offer bundled services over their own fiber-optic network as well as dial up and DSL internet services.
The company went bankrupt in 2004, but recovered and converted itself to a company that solely offered digital services. Today, they boast over half a million subscribers throughout six major markets in the United States. Their subscribers enjoy access to fiber-based internet, telephone and television services.
RCN currently has a presence in markets in the Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, DC Metro, Lehigh Valley and New York areas.
Internet:
RCN offers four different tiers of internet service. The faster the service, the more expensive the monthly costs. RCN currently offers the following speed options for their internet customers: 100 Mbps, 250 Mbps, 500 Mbps and 1 Gbps. These service options range in fosts from $45 to $60 per month.
RCN is usually offering some sort of promotion for each tier of their services. The details of each of those promotions vary by market, but often include free installation or a discounted price. Be sure to check your local offerings before signing any contracts.
RCN offers each of their subscribers the option to lease the latest tech in internet hardware. That means state-of-the art modems, routers and gateways should you decide that’s what you need for your home setup.
If you aren’t sure what your home setup needs, RCN will send out a technician to assess your home and offer suggestions about how to maximize your internet connectivity. Since RCN’s internet connections are fiber-based, you can rest easy knowing you’ll have a solid connection whenever you need it.
Television:
RCN has a robust set of digital television services. Their signature TV service includes over 284 channels, and since it’s delivered through a fiber connection you can enjoy those channels in high definition.
RCN’s television services start at $60 a month, but that number can be drastically lowered when television services are bundled with other service offerings like internet and phone.
Phone:
RCN still has a robust home-phone service offering that gives its subscribers unlimited minutes for local and long-distance calls for one flat monthly rate. Like their internet and TV services, RCN’s phone service is fiber based. That means increased reliability and crystal-clear call quality.
RCN boasts over 17 calling features that are part of their home-phone services. Those features include: call waiting, call forwarding, 3-way calls, voicemail and more.
RCN’s services can be pricey when purchased individually, but are drastically discounted when bundled together. If you are interested in purchasing one of these services, you should do your research and find out what bundled deals are available. They can save you a significant chunk of change.
